A Lil' Something about her background
Shanice lives with her mom and her sister "who is in college right now, but she visits frequently."Shanice is very close to her mom, who moved to the States during the genocide in Rwanda in 1997. She described her experience during the early years as "chaotic but fun" with "mom, her 4 brothers and their wives living together in one big house."Shanice also considers herself to be very close to her cousins "who are like her siblings." "They come over to our house and we go over to theirs very often", she recalls. She has spent a lot of time in her life with her cousins and had memorable experiences with them all. She also recalled going to Rwanda when she was 10 years old. When she went there, she realized how important culture really is. She says "she wished she had a stronger sense of culture" and that "her parents never really emphasized how important it was till [she] went to Rwanda and experienced it [herself]." She got emotional while talking about culture, emphasizing how important it is to her.
